Specimen Requirements

Collection: CSF.

Specimen Preparation:

Transport 1 mL CSF. (Min: 0.3 mL) Avoid hemolysis. If CSF is bloody, centrifuge the sample and separate supernatant from cells prior to freezing the sample.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolysis.

Remarks: CSF should be free from contamination with blood. Hemolysis is associated with falsely-elevated levels of MBP.

Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 3 weeks (Avoid freeze/thaw cycles)
