Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Clean, leakproof, wax-free container.
Specimen Type: Fresh stool
Preferred Volume: 1 mL
Collection Procedure: Fresh stool preferred in clean, leakproof container.  Specimen can also be submitted in Enteric Transport media. Refrigerate.  Do not use O & P vial. Formed stool will be rejected.
Specimen Processing: Store and transport refrigerated.  If specimen will not be tested for greater than three days after collection, specimen must be frozen.
Stability: Room Temp 3 hours. Refrigerated 3 days
Unacceptable Condition Fresh stool stored at room temperature more than 3 hours and stool received in O & P vial. Formed stool.
