Specimen Type: Fresh stool
Preferred Volume: 1 mL
Collection Procedure: Fresh stool in clean, leakproof container. Refrigerate. DO NOT use O & P vial or Enteric Transport Media. Formed stool will be rejected.
Specimen Processing: Store and transport refrigerated.
Stability: Room Temp 3 hours Refrigerated 3 days
Unacceptable Condition: Fresh stool stored at room temperature more than 3 hours and stool received in O & P vial or Enteric Transport media. Formed stool.

If C.difficile results are discordant, C.difficile PCR will be automatically reflexed.

Remarks
The Fecal Lactoferrin test replaces the microscopic fecal leukocyte method and is more sensitive and stable. Lactoferrin is not degraded by toxins such as C.difficile, which can lyse leukocytes.
