Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Sterile screw-cap container
Specimen Type: Tube #2 is optimal. Do not refrigerate.
Preferred Volume: 2 mL (Collect additional 3 mL of fluid for AFB culture and an additional 3 mL if Fungal culture also requested)
Emergency Minimum Volume: 1 mL (0.5 mL for neonates)
Collection Procedure: Physician collected
Specimen Processing: Store and transport room temperature, transport STAT
Stability: Room Temp 1 day.  Do not submit refrigerated or frozen.
