Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Lavender top tube (EDTA)
Specimen Type: Whole blood and 6 unstained peripheral blood smears
Preferred Volume: 5 mL
Emergency Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL and 4 blood smears
Specimen Processing: Store and transport at room temperature.
Limitations: This test only provides a qualitative result of spirochetes present or not.  Speciation cannot be done with an Acridine Orange smear.  Further testing will have to be ordered.
