Specimen Requirements
Container Type: Sterile Urine Container
Specimen Type: Urine, random
Preferred Volume: 10 mL
Emergency Minimum Volume: 1 mL
Collection Procedure: Collect a random urine specimen in leakproof plastic urine container with no additives.
Specimen Processing: Aliquot a random urine specimen. Adjust pH to between 3.0-4.0 with 6N HCl, and note time of adjustment. Store and transport refrigerated. Alternatively, add 10 uL of 6N HCl to 1.0 mL of well mixed urine just prior to analysis and assure pH is 3.0-4.0. Centrifuge aliquots before testing.
Unacceptable Condition: Specimens contaminated with fecal material.
