Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Lithium Heparin (Green Top)

Alternative Type: SST, Red Top
Specimen Type: Plasma
Preferred Volume: 2 mL
Emergency Minimum Volume: 0.3 mL
Specimen Processing: Separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible by centrifugation. Store and transport refrigerated. One freeze/thaw acceptable. Due to possible evaporation effects samples should be analyzed/measured within 2 hours.

Limitations: Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. >5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin administration.
Alternate Specimen: Serum Separator (Gold Top), Plain Serum Tube (Red Top), EDTA Plasma (Lavender Top)
