Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Culture Swab (aerobic)
Specimen Type: Nasal or Nasopharyngeal swab
Collection Procedure: For Nasal collection, insert culture swab into the nares. Rotate swab in each nares two to five times clockwise and counter clockwise, about three-fourths of an inch into the nasal passage (adult).   Nasopharyngeal swab specimens should be collected according to standard technique.
Specimen Processing:  Return swabs to protective sheath containing media.  Store and transport at room temperature.
