Specimen Type: Plasma or Serum
Preferred Volume: 1 mL
Emergency Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions: Specimen should ideally be collected between 6:00 - 10:00 AM
Specimen Processing: Separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible by centrifugation. Store and transport refrigerated. One freeze/thaw acceptable.

Alternate Specimen: Lithium Heparin (Green Top) or Plain Serum Tube (Red)

Immunoassay

The concentration of free testosterone is derived from a mathematical equation based on the constant for the binding of testosterone to sex hormone binding globulin.
