Specimen Requirements

Stability:
*Specimen collected in UTM': Refrigerated up to 96 hrs 
*Specimen collected in "Aptima Direct Load": Room Temp up to 6 days, Refrigerated up to 3 months (store upright, except for transport)

Specimen Collection / Turnaround Time

Patient Prep: Physician or Nurse collected.

Kit:  Nasopharyngeal Swab in Viral Transport Media OR Direct Load "Huckleberry" collection kit

Source: Nasopharyngeal and Nasal     

 

Preferred: Hologic (Aptima) Multitest Specimen Collection Kit (nasal swab included)

*If a Multitest swab is not available, NP in UTM or Nasal Swab in Saline may be used.

Batch testing times:

*TAT is 72 hours.

Monday - Friday: 0830-1600 SAT/SUN 08:30-16:00 

*Samples need to be in the Bend laboratory at a minimum one hour prior to testing times

*Run time of the Hologic Panther test is 4 hours. (keep in mind TAT is 72hrs)
