Specimen Requirements

Container Type: OC Light FOB bottle preferred or leakproof plastic urine container
Specimen Type: Random stool
Patient Prep: Requires only 1 collection and NO dietary restrictions. If mailing sample to lab, patient must include completed LAB order and billing information
Collection Procedure: Random stool specimen collected according to instructions in OC Light FOB collection device. Scrape the surface of the fecal sample with the probe from the FOB bottle. Stool must cover the grooved portion of the sample probe. Replace probe into FOB bottle and screw it closed.
Specimen Processing: Store and transport device at room temperature or refrigerated.
Stability: In Collection bottle, sample is good at room temp 15 days or refrigerated 30 days.  If fresh stool is submitted, sample must be put into OC Light FOB collection device within 2 hours of collection.
Alternate Specimens: If not sending sample in collection device probe, collect stool in urine container, store and transport as soon as possible refrigerated. Specimens must be in collection device probe within two hours of collection.
