Specimen Requirements
Container Type: Stool container or other clean, airtight container with no preservatives.
Specimen Type: Fresh stool
Emergency Minimum Volume: .05 gram or .25 ml liquid stool
Collection Procedure: Collect random stool specimen in a clean leakproof plastic container.
Specimen Processing: Store and transport refrigerated or room temperature.
Stability: Room Temp 2 weeks Refrigerated 2 weeks Frozen (-20 øC) Indefinite
Unacceptable Condition: Specimens that are in transport media or a container with any preservative or fixative cannot be used.

Remarks
The Fecal Lactoferrin test replaces the microscopic fecal leukocyte method and is more sensitive and stable. Lactoferrin is not degraded by toxins such as C.difficile, which can lyse leukocytes.
