Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Capped Syringe
Specimen Type: Whole Blood
Preferred Volume: 5 mL
Emergency Minimum Volume: 2 mL
Specimen Processing: Specimen container should be tightly capped with minimal free air space. Transport as soon as possible to lab. If greater than 2 hours to the lab, send on wet ice or refrigerated.
Required Patient Info: Patient’s temperature
Unacceptable Conditions: Syringe with needle attached. Air bubbles in specimen.
Alternate Specimens: May be run on a FULL green top, with minimal exposure to air.
