Microscopic exam is performed regardless of dipstick results.

This test will reflex a Urine Culture automatically if culture criteria are met. If a Urine Culture is desired regardless of UA results, please order a Urinalysis Complete with Microscopic (LAB348) and Urine Culture (LAB239).

Specimen Requirements

Container Type: Sterile urine container
Specimen Type: Urine, random
Preferred Volume: 10 mL
Emergency Minimum Volume: 4 mL; Pediatric only 2 mL.
Collection Procedure: Collect a random urine specimen using clean catch method.
Specimen Processing: Aliquot 10 mL of a random urine specimen. Store and transport refrigerated.
Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens that have been at room temperature longer than 2 hours. Specimens in boric acid tubes. Specimens submitted in a Urine Culture vacutainer tube.

Criteria to reflex Urine Culture: WBC >10/hpf OR Bacteria >3+ OR Leukocyte Esterase >1+.

If Squamous Epithelial Cells >10/hpf, culture will not reflex. Recollection is required for culture.
