Specimen Requirements

Container Type: 2 Red top tube (plain) and 1 Lavender top EDTA tube
Specimen Type: Serum and cells
Emergency Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum and EDTA tube
Collection Procedure: Draw two red top tubes. Immediately place clot tube in 37C incubator for 2 hours. If incubator is not available, use a heel warmer to maintain 37 degrees.
Specimen Processing: After tube has clotted in the 37C incubator, separate the serum from the cells. Store and transport the serum and the EDTA whole blood refrigerated.
Unacceptable Condition: Separator tubes (SST/Corvac).
